Presenting To Difiicult and Challenging Groups For Government Employees

Government employees are often called upon to present to members of the public or facilitate citizen engagement activities. Whether it's announcing a government initiative, explaining policies and procedures, of facilitating a citizen group, it's not uncommon for government representatives to face difficult, sceptical or even hostile individuals in groups.

It's part of the territory, and it's possible to learn some basic facilitation and response skills to:

  • enhance credibility of the message, the presenter, and the government department
  • reduce resistance to the message
  • encourage dialogue rather than confrontational arguments
  • decrease "heckling" and personal attacks

Most government employees don't have to have the skills required of political public relations and communication staff, but do require the basic skills to defuse hostiloe situation with the public. That's why we created a seminar just for government.

Presenting To Resistant Groups - Who Is It For

While appropriate for anyone who interacts with the public, constituatnets, or interest groups, this course is specifically designed for "regular" employees who, on occasion, work with groups of taxpayers, interest groups and constituents at public meetings. It's not meant to replace intensive public relations training.
